(Menu Tasting)

I have walked by this cafe numerous times while in the vicinity but never really got to visit them. Last week I was invited to Cafe Najjar to try out their new menu and you bet I was so stoked. They have lots of exciting things planned for the month of November: Ladies nights, karaoke, live singer and much more. They have a wide variety of sheesha options too and I saw a lot of people at their cafe on a weekday smoking sheesha and enjoying the weather. Cafe Najjar serves authentic Lebanese and continental food.

Ambiance: The place is beautiful. Love the interiors and the decor. The seatings were comfortable and spacious. They had seating space outdoors as well and indoors. However, I did not like the fact that they did not have a non smokers area in the cafe. We were sitting amongst people smoking there and it was uncomfortable in the beginning.

Service: Marwa was the best server that has ever served me in my life 😛 She was so fun and bubbly and just made our eating experience so much better. She served us well and quick, she suggested us some really good drinks and food as well. She was amazing ❤

Price: A little steep for the quantity of food if I must say.

What we had;

Healthy Najjar [35AED]: The drink was served in a beautiful pineapple shell giving it an amazing presentation. The drink in itself was super delicious! It was a mix of fruits, one of them being pineapple and what I loved the most was lasting mint flavour. You can opt out of the whipped cream like we did.

Strawberry Milkshake [31AED]: Oh the strawberry milkshake was so good! The consistency was not too thick nor was it very watered down. The strawberry flavour was very rich and we loved the bits of strawberry in our drink.

Strawberry Mojito [33AED]: The mojito was made to perfection! Strawberry is my absolute favourite thing and this drink did justice to my obsession. Loved the balance of the sweet and sour in the mojito. A lot of times when I order for mojitos, 3/4th of the drink comprises of pure ice; this was not the case here.

Hummus [23AED]: They do their hummus really good. It was super creamy and very delicious along with the breads on the side. They even have a different flavour of hummus which they really recommend to customers.

Dynamite Shrimps [39AED]: Okay so I am a big fan of Pf changs dynamite shrimps and I feel like this was so very close to being just as good as them. The shrimps were fried to perfection, the sauce was just so delectable but the shrimps were not lathered in the cocktail sauce properly. I was not getting enough flavour. If they just had more sauce in it, I’d have loved it all the way through. It was really good none the less.

Najjar Combo [74AED]: This platter comprised of sample portions of breaded shrimps, calamari, mozzarella sticks, chicken nuggets and onion rings served with barbecue sauce and cocktail/ tartar sauce. Everything was SO yummy in platter – from the breaded shrimps to the onion rings.  The mozzarella sticks were so good and probably my favourite along with the breaded shrimps. Do go for this sharing platter.

Chicken Shawarma [39AED]: I could not have more than a couple of bites of my main course. The shawarma lacked flavours and I was surprised as how underwhelming it tasted. The chicken felt boiled with just seasoning of salt that is it. I happily munched on the fries while I let the shawarma be. So disappointed.

Steak Mushroom Cheese [82AED]: My friend was really excited to have her main-course as it was her first time trying it. Hammered beef steak covered in mushrooms and melted cheese. Potato wedges, veggie sautè, grilled corn and brown mushroom sauce was served on its side. The mushroom sauce was truly below average and the steak was hard and chewy.

Kunafe [31AED]: Oh the Kunafa was all things good. Not the best out there but delicious none the less. It was a good portion served with some sugar syrup on the side. The kunafa was hot and the cheese was just too good!

Crepe [39AED]: Probably the best thing we had all night. Delicious thin crepe filled with pineapples and strawberry drenched in some rich Belgian chocolates. The dessert on the whole was so perfect! The chocolates and the fruits went so good together. We were so pleased.

Beirut Blend [25AED]: Assortment of five grains adding character to this coffee. You cannot come to Najjar and not try out their coffee – it is a crime. We were suggested this coffee and boy it was so good! The aroma of the coffee itself was so enticing. We would totally recommend you trying out their coffee.

Final thoughts: I genuinely believe that this place is amazing but their main course was so below average I was shocked. I would definitely come here though, to try out more from their coffees, appetizers and try their sheesha.
