Its not everyday that I travel all the way to Ajman only to find out a hidden gem. Delhi Chatkaare is a small restaurant with parking very difficult to find. This is a pure vegetarian restaurant.
Ambiance: Walking into the restaurant, it is like you’re transported to some typical restaurant in Delhi. The place smelled of chaats, samosas and all em good things. Many people might find it icky, but I liked the low key Delhi vibes that were going on. The place was well lit and a had a couple of seating arrangements.
Service: Service was alright – decent. The person managing the place was very sweet and kind.
Price: The food is very affordable and easy on the pockets.
What we had;
Sweet Lime Soda [8AED] : We had to send it back twice as it did not taste as good. The soda seemed to be fizzed out the second time and the first time it was way too salty for my liking.
Sweet Lassi [6AED]: Ah! This was so thick and delicious! Absolutely loved it. We exchanged our lime drink for this and it quenched our thirst in this crazy weather.
Papdi Chaat [8AED]: Okay hands down the best thing I tasted in Delhi Chatkaara! The chaat was just so perfect with right balance between sweet and green (spicy) chutney; I was a fan. I loved how we were literally in tears once our dish was done with. The papdi were crunchy and tasted well with the different flavours and textures.
Vada Pav [3AED]: Wow, the last time I had some bomb Vada Pav was in school, 4 years back. The dish was my next favourite and I was not expecting that. The vada was hot and smeared with some super spicy green chutney which simply turned a simple Vada Pav to an extremely mouth watering one.
Bhel Puri [7AED]: Oh the bhel was delish! No words for the chaats here. It was super spicy and at the same time, the sweet chutney somewhat balanced the taste. The quantity was enough for two people but when you keep such phenomenal bhel in front of you, how can you resist 😛
Pani Puri [7AED]: Not going to lie but I have had better. The puri was not crunchy and tasted like it was left out for too long. The pani also was not popping at all, tasted very diluted and was not bursting with flavours like I expected.
Paneer Butter Masala [16AED]: Oh this was simply lip smackingly yummy! The gravy was super thick and the flavours were so authentic and delicious. Love the soft pieces of paneer cooked in this flavourful masala. Paired with some tawa paratha, we were in food coma by this dish. This would have paired well with some jeera rice too. Also, for all you people assuming that this dish would have been super sweet, nope. The sweetness was well balanced.
Jalebi [4AED]: The jalebis were served hot yet were not fresh. I am a sucker for jalebi so found them decent. But I hope they would have served some fresh jalebis.
Kulfi [7AED]: The kulfi was delicious and so good. Loved the end to our meal with this. Who does not love some kulfi for dessert.
Final Thoughts: This place is super affordable with some crazy yum chaats. I am definitely coming back here to try some of their chaat specials.
