Living in Dubai, where a large population here comprises of Filipinos, surprising I have never tried their cuisine before. So when I received a tasting invite, I was super stoked and was looking forward to some delicious food.
So a little about Casa Pinoy: This little outdoor – indoor place was just established a couple of months ago. They serve you authentic Philipino cuisine with a few Japanese, Spanish and Chinese dishes as well.
Now I did have a couple of issues here as well. I would not want to dwell in it much, as everyone messes up now and then – but my eating experience was extremely unsatisfying because of that.
Ambiance: They have outdoor, covered seating arrangements with coolers and A/C. So I would suggest you come in the evenings as it would be much convenient for you to enjoy your meal. I however, came around 5pm (scheduled) when the head chef was out for lunch break and the cooler and A/C was not switched on as the manager was not expecting me to come in that day. So basically, we were seated in the heat, trying our best to enjoy the food.
Service: Service was alright. It was quick and efficient. Special shoutout to Mr. Henry who was so full of energy and tried to cheer us up.
Price: Very pocket friend if you are looking quantity wise.
What we ate;
Adidas (Chicken’s Feet) [10AED]: We chose this off of their street menu list. It was a very, very, very daring move for us. We tried keeping all us biases aside and tried indulging in this. Honestly, I could not get past the very graphic image of the dish 😛 However. it tasted well and if you can stomach such thing, you should definitely go for this and Chicken’s Neck too – so I’ve heard.
Buffalo Wings [20AED]: These were extremely oily and tasted just like KFC’s wings. That being said, they were quite delicious 😛 Hot and crunchy.. who would not love that!
Shrimps cocktail [28AED]: Okay so the thing about this appetizer – they were delicious beyond words. We expected something like dynamite shrimps but this came with the sauce on the side. My issue with this was that they battered shrimps were very soggy and felt like they were not made fresh. Which is a shame because this was one of the best things I had in Casa Pinoy. Loved loved loved the sauce – we just could not stop indulging in them!
Watermelon Breeze [15AED]: The drink was absolutely refreshing in the extreme hot conditions that we were sitting in. We wanted to try the Pina Colada, but they had some issue with not having pineapple juice.
Crab Nigiri [30AED]: These were actually delicious! I do not normally like sushi or anything to do with sushi, but these were quite decent and looked good too. Do have it with their dip.
Sizzling Beef [30AED]: This dish came with some rice and mushroom sauce was the main aspect of the dish. My friend mentioned that there were not enough spices in the sizzler and tasted very bland. He wasn’t a fan of the main course.
Noodles (Chicken) [18AED]: These noodles were delicious and my friend liked them alot. A little bland again, but we asked them to get us some sauce to go along with it. So with the freshly made chilli in oil sauce, the noodles were quite bomb I must say!
For desserts we wanted to try the Buko Padan, but it was not available at that time. SO we tried Halo Halo [15AED] and Ube Halaya [10AED]. Ube was such a shocker – it contained yam. Yes, Ube halaya is a beautiful looking and quite nice tasting dessert made with mashed purple yam. And Halo Halo is a very famous Filipino dessert. Halo-halo is a popular Filipino dessert with mixtures of shaved ice and evaporated milk to which are added various ingredients, including boiled sweet beans, coconut, sago, gulaman, tubers and fruits. The milky part of this was delicious but the boiled beans, corn and all that was quite unsettling so could not enjoy this particular dessert that much.
Final Verdict: Casa Pinoy is a decent place for some quite bite. If you are new to this cuisines, you will have to get used to it a bit. However, food is quite good is you want some pocket friendly bites.
