Absolute barbecue which is situated right behind day to day (walking distance from Deira city centre metro station) is SO much better location wise than the Media City one. You would definitely need to make reservations here.

Location: behind day to day, Deira City Centre area. Centurion bldg, Mezzanine floor.

The concept of this place is so unique.. at least for me. A ‘do it yourself’ grill at the table with partially cooked skewers was exciting in itself. A truly astounding experience I must say.

Our server walked us to our table for two which was situated in a corner far.. far away from the buffet. As this branch of Ab’s is newly opened, (05th May 2016) the drinks are (were) on the house (complimentary) (until 15th May 2016 – if I am not mistaken) My friend ordered for the strawberry drink which was a tad bit too sweet and I myself had the virgin mojito which was quite yummy.

The server then came to our table to ask us if we were vegetarians or non- vegetarian. (* if this is of any interest to you, my friend opted for the vegetarian menu and I for non-veg but I am allergic to red meat.. oops!)  He then went over the menu and concept for us and removed the wooden slab off of the table which then revealed our very own mini grilling station! The concept was very simple.

Both vegetarian and non- vegetarian would have 6 (unlimited) starters each, grilling at our station with variety of sauces and oils to enhance our eating experience. Various servers would also be taking rounds serving other starters too. Next, for the main course, there was a large variety of buffet which also included some yummy soups. To end the meal, there was a large variety of dessert to keep us occupied.

First for the Vegetarian;

  • Corn on the cob
  • Grilled pineapple with cinnamon
  • Watermelon BBQ
  • Paneer BBQ
  • Mushrooms
  • Assorted Veggies

Non – Vegetarian;

  • Punjabi Tangdi
  • Coastal BBQ fish
  • BBQ chicken
  • Cashew nut Prawns

For the vegetarian, I liked the variety and sauces on the veggies. I absolutely LOVED the pineapple skewer. It was delicious beyond words! The watermelon BBQ is a first and was a little weird for me but my friend liked it. The paneer BBQ too was well marinated and yummy. As for the non-veg, as I am allergic to red meats and not a big fan of crabs and lambs, I skipped on that and had the BBQ chicken and Cashew nut Prawns which were my ABSOLUTE favourite and mouth watering especially with the mint and yogurt dip! The coastal fish was just wrong is so many different levels for me. The tangadi chicken was just so – so. The coastal fish tasted like it was watered down and I did not like it at all. However, you can get a variety of crabs and lambs and red meats on your skewers.

The starters were done and I was almost DONE for the day. But that was not the end to it. Then came the CHEESY AMERICAN POTATOES. Oh God. These pink cream sauce tiny potatoes were SO delish. I just could not stop myself. Bit of sour, bit of sweet. Mm-hmm. Along with this came CRUNCHY CORN which was good too and some FALAFEL! The starters were amazing and I just could not get enough of this amazing stuff.

Next, I did not have from the WISH GRILL (the wish grill is similar to a Mongolian grill where you are asked to choose from an array of meats and veggies and choose your own sauce and the chef would cooked these up real good in an open kitchen! How exciting!)  but my friend did.. She went to the counter and chose from a variety of veggies and chose from 6 – 8 sauces that were on the counter. She pretty much loved her wish grill and craved for more. Though, she had specifically mentioned NO mushrooms, yet they happily sprinkled that on her bowl. The non-vegetarian wish grill section had a lot of different exotic meats to choose from. Squid, Octopus, Duck, Turkey, Quail and much more. I, in no ways had space for this goodie.. sadly.

We took a half hour interval HAHA 😛 (The entire 3 course meal took us 2 and a half hours to eat TBH no jokes.)

For mains, there was a huge variety, from which you could pick. (MENU)

I had too much meat by this time but I tasted their butter chicken none the less. I am honestly running out of words which I can use in place of ‘delicious’ and ‘yummy’ – Thesaurus can not even help me anymo! I loved the gravy and the dal makhni the most. It went too well with the Biryani and Basmati rice. Salad was fresh and crunchy and had a huge variety in that too. The menu had too much on the list and IF maybe we had not indulged in a lot of starters and gotten greedy with the whole wish grill situation, we could.. nah who am I kidding, the starters were amazing! Maybe a next visit?

We took another half an hour for the dessert while our kind server cleared our table.

The desserts again had an interesting concept of cold stone ice cream where the ‘ice-cream man, if I must’ mixes a variety of ice-cream choices with your pick of nuts, Oreos, chocolate chips and what not. There were plenty ice cream options. Some of which included, butterscotch (I had this with some white chocolate chips and one Oreo), mango, chocolate, vanilla and strawberry.

They had had a huge diversity in their miniature desserts. From cheesecakes, to angoori gulab jamun, to coco balls to tarts. The coco ball was below average while the mango cheesecake felt as though it was made from tofu. We asked for the chef and shared our disappointment with him. He was so utterly sweet and said probably this batch contained a little too much gelatin. He was very apologetic and quickly bought in some more cheesecake for us to taste.

Two and a half hours later, we took in an extra 15 minutes, simply because we could not move. I am definitely coming here again, but this time with a huge group of friends.

The service was on point, and we could not have asked for a better server. Everyone was on their toes throughout our visit and I hope this is not only because this outlet opened 4 days ago. The seating arrangement is very comfortable. The restaurant which is on the mezzanine floor is very spacious and well lit.

Oh and dosti ke teen usool hotein hain, NO sorry, NO thank-you and No tipping. Yeah, casually putting out there that they do not accept tipping.
