MOSHI – Momo + Sushi !

Moshi, Oud Metha

Moshi is such a cute place to have some snacks at. I was quite happy the minute I stepped into the restaurant. Welcomed by two amazing people waiting on us, the aroma drove us insane.

The minute you step into Moshi, you are blown away with the amazing smell of freshly steamed momos and soups. Walking in, they have an open kitchen where you can just walk up to the counter and watch them make your food in front of you, which I prefer and at the same time find it very intriguing.

Getting to the good part, our kind server got us our menu card and it was so moderately and reasonably priced. Their menu screams a fusion of nepalese and Japanese cuisine. Which was very interesting to be honest. Also what I love about their menu options is that it is to the point and no bullshit at all. They know what they are experts in and they definitely stick to that. Our order was inclusive of/ what we had;

  • Cheesy Chicken Capsicum Momos – 19dhs
  • Pero Pero Chicken Momos – 19dhs
  • Thupka Vegetable Soup – 11dhs
  • Thupka Chicken Soup – 14dhs
  • Spring Rolls (Veg) – 10dhs
  • Nutella Maki Rolls – 17dhs
  • Nutella Milkshake – 18dhs
  • Kinder Milkshake – 18dhs

CHEESY CHICKEN MOMOS – We got it done deep fried, even though I prefer steamed. The momos were super cheesy and the capsicum chicken complimented it will. The momos came with you sides chutneys. One was a spicy chutney dip which had no other flavour than plain spice. It tasted very bland and I was just about to push it aside when I thought of mixing the sweet – chilli sauce that came along with the spring rolls. It tasted SO good! And the other was mustard sauce.. not a fan of mustard anyway.

In my opinion, momos are best steamed, but then if you are a fan of Gyozas.. that’s another story.

Next, PERO PERO CHICKEN MOMOS was super delish as well. They spices were less, yes, but the side dip compensated for it. These were done pan fried. Why you ask? Since I like them steamed? I was flustered by the pushy waiter to try it this way. I do not do well under pressure 😦

THUPKA VEGETABLE SOUP, (I have hearts on my eyes honestly) when it came to the table, I took a little sip from it and it was truly love at first sight. Yes it was a tad bit too salty but it was so refreshing and spicy. The vegetables were crunchy and fresh and the noodles were well cooked too. I loved the nepalese staple soupy noodles so I had to ordered one more for my self, but in the chicken variant (THUPKA CHICKEN SOUP) though. I was stuffed but I could not leave even a drop of this soup on my bowl – it would be as though I committed a sin, and I already have way too many on my list!

For 11/14dhs, you had a huge portion which I ended up sharing.

SPRING ROLLS though to be honest were very basic. Okay amongst the best if I must say. It didnt have much seasoning in it. Though the side sauce it came with, the sweet – chilli sauce compensated for it.

Up next were the milkshakes, the KINDER MILKSHAKE and the NUTELLA MILKSHAKE. They both were thick creamy and all sorts of yummy! It was quite a big quantity and I struggled to finish the Kinder Milkshake. The nutella milkshake was sweeter than the kinder one.. both being a tad bit too sweet none the less. As the milkshakes were super thick, I was super annoyed at the scrawny little straws they had provided us with. It did no good and I ended up just drinking it straight up from the mason jar – Don’t judge.

To end our day we decided to try the NUTELLA MAKI ROLLS and OMG it took us 0.004 seconds to clean the plate. The rolls were so soft and fluffy and the nutella in and on the rolls was just perfect. I absolutely loved the dessert and wanted to have more but the milkshakes had gotten the best of me.

While asking for the bill, our waiter was sweet enough to get us PEANUT BUTTER BARS [15dhs] It was not one of my favourites, but yummy none the less. After having the phenomenal maki rolls, having this was a lil unfair to the peanut bars.

I have no clue why this place is not buzzing! I’m surprised. Hidden jewel for sure.

All in all, I absolutely love this place and I am going to visit again. They have two outlets for now, one in Barsha and one in Oud Metha. It is walkable distance from The Lamcy Plaza. – 04 2759056
